new world

I’m in the Pacific Northwest right now. There are all these nice houses and big trees. The air is so clean, somewhat crisp but not as cold as I expected. We are finally in the US. Our flight didn’t take longer than it was supposed to, but our belongings were certainly heavier and more than they should have been. It doesn’t feel so different for me to be here, for now, just some differences here and there but they neither surprise nor shock me. I’m kind of observing and sort of participating in the life here. But I like it so far; I like having the opportunity to have this experience. American Life. We’ll see what you got to offer me.

i wore a black vintage-look dress. ozgur was so cute, and so was kursat. i love them so much, they made me feel so good about everything before and after the gig. we are a team now. just when i'm ready to go, i feel i belong somewhere. i guess that's the way of things here, i.e, life. some songs we liked doing and did well: smooth operator (it felt like an unplugged version of sade's, very cool) come rain or come shine (bluesy, soo delicious) almost blue (i almost cried, seriously) angel eyes (always) devil may care (i gave it a tad bit of melancholic flavor, i liked it) spooky (fun-ky) i was tense. in spite of the crowd who was there to really listen to me, at "my jubilee" as we called it. you gotta leave it at a height. i ended up taking a cab back home on my own at 2 a.m. the measure of just how lonely i am in this city.

Heisey

A famous handmade glassware company, Heisey went out of business in the 1950s but still sends passionate collectors hunting the Holy Grail of their own: the perfect piece, the dream Heisey of each individual collector. I am lucky enough to conduct an interview with a very knowledgeable and long-time collector, as well as lucky enough to be around her rich and beautiful collection every day, as she is my grandmother-in-law. Joyce Rohde was kind enough to answer all my questions.
